“Thanks for starting the coffee.”

“No problem, since I know you don’t want me making the breakfast.”

“Nope, but you better have a good chef ready for my meal.”

Dante laughed. “Of course. But are we considering that a date?”

I thought about it for a second before speaking, “That, we will have to discuss when the time comes.” While I got the breakfast items out of the fridge, I decided to do something special by making gingerbread pancakes. It was always something I made during the holidays, which I knew Dante would remember. Once I got the ingredients from the cabinet, I saw the smile across his lips.

“See, that’s why I rather if you cook.”

“I guess you know what I’m about to make.”

“Of course. I loved eating those.”

“I figured since you’re here, I could make them.”

“Let me help you. Put me to work, if you want.”

“You know I’m not going to turn you down.” I took out two bowls as I put the wet ingredients in one and the dry in the other. I told Dante to beat the eggs, while I put the dry ingredients together. I glanced at him and smiled before turning on my blender. Before I knew it, majority of my mix was flying everywhere as I forgot to cover it.

I looked at my sleep shirt, which was covered with flour, baking powder, and cinnamon. I heard a loud chuckle, as Dante was laughing hysterically.

“Oh, you think that’s funny?”

“I wouldn’t be laughing if it wasn’t.”

“Smart ass,” I said as I threw a little of the mix at him.

He gave a shocked look as he looked at his sweater. “You do know this is a $100 sweater.”

“Oh well, you can get it dry cleaned.”

“Which you’ll be paying for.”

“Oh, really?”

“Yeah, you are.”

I smiled as I threw some more of the mix at him. Some of it landed on the counter, as well as towards his face. He tried to throw some of the egg batter at me, which only went on the floor.

“You’re cleaning that up.” Before I knew it, we were literally having a food fight with egg batter and flour. I was attempting to throw some powder on him, but I slipped on some egg yolk that was on the floor. He tried to catch me but ended up falling as well. We landed on the kitchen tile, laughing at the mess we had made.

“Are you okay?” he asked.

I laughed. “I am. Are you?”

“Yeah. I don’t know how we got into a food fight.”

“I don’t know how either, but it was fun.”

“It certainly was.” He looked at me as his hand slowly caressed my cheek. My face softened from his touch as he gave a sexy smile. “You had some flour on your cheek.”

“Thanks.”

He became serious as his hand went behind the back of my neck. He pulled me to him, as his lips touched mine. I instantly melted against him, as he held me tighter against him. I definitely wasn’t expecting this, but it felt damn good. A whimper escaped my lips as the kiss deepened.

At that point, I didn’t care if we had to clean up the kitchen; the only thing I was thinking about was the kiss I was sharing with the man that I still had feelings for. At that point, I knew it was wrong and I’d probably regret it later, but being in his arms, feeling his lips on mines, was something that I tried not to happen when I first saw him, even though I wanted to do all along.
