Character Interview: Meet Desiree and Montez from Boyfriend For Hire by Delaney Diamond.

Happy Friday, Diverse Romance Readers,

Today, we have a special treat for you. I hope you’re ready to meet the characters from Boyfriend For Hire by Delaney Diamond. I was so excited for a chance to sit down and chat with them. Get ready for an exciting interview. Let’s jump right into it.

1 – Hey, Desiree and Montez, I’m so excited to sit down with you. The readers are eager to get to know you two better. My first question is, how did you two meet?

Desiree (glances at Montez beside her on the sofa): Should I answer that, or do you want to?

Montez (stretches his arm along the back of the sofa): You can go ahead and answer.

Desiree: Okay, we met at Kizzie’s Diner. It’s a restaurant in Atlanta that sort of turns into a bar at night. I’d never heard of it, but I was looking for something to eat after getting off work late, and I went there for a bite. He was leaving as I was going in, and we started chatting.

Montez: Hold up, tell the whole story.

Desiree: That is the whole story.

Montez (looks at the interviewer with a smirk): She made the first move.

Desiree: I did not!

Montez: Yeah, you did. Like she said, we were in the parking lot. I told her I was leaving, she looked me up and down, and said, “That’s too bad.”

Desiree (laughs): I was making an observation.

Montez: Uh-huh. What was I supposed to do then? This fine woman let me know right off the bat that she was interested. Of course I turned around and hauled my ass–can I say ass?–back in there. That’s how we met.

Desiree: We fell out of touch after that night.

Montez: Whose fault was that?”

Desiree (rolls her eyes): Mine. We met up again when I needed a fake boyfriend to attend a company dinner with me. I was competing for a promotion and didn’t want to go alone. Our relationship progressed from there.

2- That’s hilarious, but it also sounds like fate. From the way you look at each other, I can tell you’re deeply in love. What do you love most about your partner?

Desiree (gazes at Montez with affection in her eyes): There’s so much to love about him. He has a great sense of humor and makes me laugh. He’s very caring, too and always has my back.

Montez: That’ll never change.

Desiree (places a hand on his thigh): Thank you.

Montez: I like that she’s goal-oriented and knows what she wants and goes after it. She also calls me out on my shit–can I say shit?–which I appreciate.

3 – Ahhh. You two are so sweet to each other. We can all tell that right now, things are going perfectly for you both. But where do you both see yourself in five years?

Desiree: Married, maybe with a kid or two.

Montez: Definitely. I’m looking forward to us getting married and starting a family.

4 – I hope to get an invite to the wedding. Since you’ve brought up marriage, I have to ask, do you believe love is forever?

Montez (takes a deep breath): Man, that’s a good question. I think… I think love can last forever if you work at it, but you have to want that forever kind of love, you know what I mean? You can’t be in a relationship and constantly think that if things don’t work out, you can just jet. Nah. (shakes his head) Make the decision that you’re in the relationship for good, and then the way you move will reflect that. Matter of fact, Desiree and I have good examples of that forever kind of love, don’t we, babe?

Desiree (nods): We do. We’ve discussed it.

Montez: My parents have been together since high school, and hers met in college. Both are happily married, and that’s what I want–that’s what I foresee–for us.

Desiree (nods again in agreement): Our parents have provided great examples of what love could and should be. It can last forever, but it doesn’t always. To Montez’s point, you have to have the right mindset and work at your relationship. Otherwise, chances are, your love for each other will dwindle and eventually fade away.

5 – Romance often thrives on tension and anticipation. Can you share a memorable moment of tension between you and your love interest? What was the atmosphere like, and how did it affect your relationship?

Montez: I need to answer this one, because I remember the incident like it was yesterday.

Desiree (smiles): Go ahead. I’m pretty sure we’re thinking about the same moment.

Montez: That day on the golf course?

Desiree (smile broadens): That’s it.

Montez: Desiree’s boss invited her, the other person he was considering for the promotion, and me to play golf one Saturday. Near the end, Desiree hit the ball perfectly and it went in the cup, which landed her in second place. She became so excited, she flung her arms around me. I swear time stood still right then. Honestly, I couldn’t breathe. It was as if someone had closed their fist around my heart. Right then, nobody else and nothing else existed except her, the woman in my arms. I felt every inch of her soft body and didn’t want to let her go.

That moment forced me to evaluate my feelings for Desiree in an honest way and made me think about how to move past our fake relationship.

Desiree: Something similar happened to me. It felt as if time stood still, and I remember looking up at Montez and feeling so emotional, but I couldn’t do anything about it because we were in the middle of the golf course with my boss and my competition standing nearby and watching us. The moment only lasted for seconds, but it felt like an eternity.

I enjoyed chatting with you two today. Thank you for joining me for this character interview. Readers, be sure to read Boyfriend For Hire to see how Desiree and Montez’s love story unfolds.

A one-night stand leads to much more…

Montez Ross’s family owns At Your Service, a unique company that provides clients with men for both dating and handyman tasks. When the woman who left him after a one-night stand seeks their services, Montez, unaccustomed to being left, is annoyed but agrees to help her out.

Desiree Hagan is on track to make senior vice president of marketing at her firm but faces an obstacle: her terrible ex is her direct competition for the promotion. So she hires Montez to be her pretend boyfriend for an important company dinner which she doesn’t want to attend alone. Now she has a new problem: unexpected feelings for Montez that she can’t ignore.

She smiled briefly as they passed each other. “How is it in there?”

Damn. Her voice gave him chills. Husky and smooth, the kind of voice that introduced the top R&B hits during late-night shows on the radio.

“Not bad,” he said, pausing and turning to look at her.

Her black hair shimmered under the parking lot lights. Nice figure too. She had meat on her bones, with shapely hips and a nice-looking ass in those pants. Surprisingly, his body stirred for the first time that night.

“Are you leaving?” she asked.

“Yes,” Montez replied.

She pouted, lips covered in dark chocolate lipstick that made them look sexy and moist. Her gaze swept him from head to toe, and she murmured something. Had he heard her correctly? It sounded like she said, “That’s too bad.”

The stranger continued her stride toward the diner, her shapely hips doing that swinging pendulum thing women did that made his knees weak.

Montez didn’t move, even after she’d entered the building and the door closed behind her. Female attention wasn’t unusual for him, but most women didn’t shoot their shot so openly. They tended to be more subtle, but there was nothing subtle about that exchange.

He walked slowly toward his SUV near the back of the lot, his mind centered on the woman he just passed. She was his type. Tall, thick, sexy, and not a lick of shyness in her.

Montez popped the locks on his dark gray Lincoln Navigator. He’d bet last month’s salary that she smelled great too.

A slow smile crossed his face. Only one way to find out.

Montez hit the key fob and locked his vehicle. Then he followed her inside.
